Norma Rodgers, 81

Celebration of life service for Norma E. Rodgers, 81, North English, was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Powell Funeral Home, North English. She died Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the English Valleys Care Center, North English, where she had been a resident since April 2010.

The Rev. Edwin Jordan officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Millersburg Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Grove Grace Brethren Church or the family’s choice.

Norma Elaine Rodgers was born Dec. 15, 1931, on a farm in English Township, Iowa County, the daughter of Sylvester and Vera Keil Herdlicka.

She grew up in the rural North English and Millersburg communities and graduated from Millersburg High School.

She married Charles Douglas Rodgers Aug. 9, 1953, at the Pleasant Grove Grace Brethren Church near North English. She worked eight years as a cook at the Landmark Restaurant and at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clincs in housekeeping for three years, retiring in 1979.

She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Grace Brethren Church where she taught Sunday school and was active in the WMC as project chairman.

Rodgers is survived by three sons, Charles and Carolyn Rodgers, Williamsburg; Jonathan and Mindy Rodgers, Raytown, Mo.; Phillip and Kristy Rodgers, Millersburg; one daughter, Susan McClearly Bain and Steve, Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren, Chelsey and Mark Kolpin and Colin Rodgers, Jon-Erick and Megan, Matt and Victoria and Alaina Rodgers, Christin, Meagan and Tiffany Rodgers, Trenton and Taryn McCleary; five great-grandchildren, Gregory, Cole and Ily McCleary, Bryce Kolpin and Hunter Rodgers; one sister, Marilyn and Ray Johnson, Tipp City, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Opal Faas, Cedar Rapids, and Shirley Herdlicka, North English, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; an infant daughter, Linda Rodgers; son-in-law, Greg McCleary; an infant brother and brothers, Robert, Gene and Russell Herdlicka.
