Helen Niner, 92

Funeral service for Helen W. Niner, 92, Marengo, was held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 18, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. She died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids.

Burial was in the Ladora Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established.

Helen Winifred Niner was born March 7, 1921, in rural Marengo, the daughter of David and Lola E. Hoyt Cooperider. She received her early education in the Iowa County schools and graduated from Marengo High School in 1939. She was employed as a telephone operator for many years.

She married Carroll L. Niner Feb. 5, 1965, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. He died in 1975.

She was a lifelong resident of Iowa County, a member of the First United Methodist Church, Marengo; the United Methodist Women; the Happy Homemakers Club and the Over 60 Club.

She was a beloved sister, aunt and friend to many. She will be missed by her family and friends.

The family wishes to thank the Mercy Hospital Staff for the compassion and care she received. A special thanks to Dr. Kenneth Cearlock for his attention and excellent care.

Niner is survived by one sister, Eileen Machen, Marion, and five nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Duane.
