Levi David Gott, 26, a native of South Amana, passed away while asleep at his home in North Pole, Ala., March 6, 2013.

Levi’s life was marked by his charm and service to his community and the nation. Levi was born Aug. 25, 1986, in Cedar Rapids; graduated from Clear Creek Amana High School in 2005; and served in the United States Army from 2005 to 2010. In his first active duty assignment, Levi served as a construction engineer for the 24th Ordinance Co. at Hunter Army Airfield, Ga. In his free time, he volunteered as a soccer coach for 4- and 5-year old kids. He deployed to Afghanistan from February 2007 to May 2008 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He then trained as an unmanned aerial vehicle pilot at Fort Huachuca, Ariz. Levi married Courtney Roberts on May 30, 2010, left the Army, and moved with her to the Fairbanks, Alaska, area, where he performed security services, took classes, worked out, enjoyed life and made many friends.

Levi loved the outdoors and was an avid sportsman, but his greatest love was children. Levi did all he could to positively influence the kids with whom he crossed paths and many of them thought of him as a big brother.

Levi is survived by his wife, Courtney; his parents, David and Martha Gott of South Amana; brother, Aaron Gott, 28, of Minneapolis; brother, Isaac Gott, 23, of South Amana; sister, Hannah Gott, 19, of Ames; brother in spirit and truth, Brandon Dierickx, 32, of Denver; and grandfather, George Bradfield, 88, of Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Isabel Bradfield and Robert and Phyllis Gott.

All are invited to celebrate his life at his visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin, and funeral service, noon Friday also at Grace. A luncheon of Levi’s favorite dishes will follow the funeral service. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City is caring for Levi’s services.

A memorial fund honoring Levi has been established.
