George Walters, 81

Funeral service for George “Ervin” Walters, 81, Marengo, was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, at First United Methodist Church, Marengo.

He died Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Marengo Memorial Hospital.

Burial was in the Marengo Cemetery with military honors.

Memorials may be made to the Rose Haven Activity Fund or Marengo Memorial Hospital.

George Ervin Walters was born Oct. 12, 1931, in Monmouth, Kan., the son of George and Lina Scales Walters. He attended the Kansas, Marengo and Ladora schools. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, stationed at Camp Roberts in California. He continued in service to his country in the Reserves until 1960.

He married Marilyn “Red” Knock March 16, 1957, at the First United Methodist Church, Marengo. He farmed with his father in the Ladora, Brooklyn and Hartwick areas until retiring in 1995. He has resided in Marengo since.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Marengo, and the Ladora American Legion.

The family would like to thank the staff of Rose Haven Nursing Home and the Marengo Memorial Hospital for the excellent care and concern that was extended to Ervin. A special thank you to Karen and Mike Schmitz for always being there for him and his family.

Walters is survived by his daughters, Lina Rae and Jim Busse, West Chester, Ohio, and Pam and Mark Huedepohl, Shelbyville, Ky.; two granddaughters, Brittani Busse, Houston, Texas, and Bethani and Stephen Bradley, Wake Forest, N.C.; a great-granddaughter, Evelyn Rae, and one sister, Darlene Bral, Marengo.

He was preceded in death by his wife, in 2004; his parents and siblings, Lena Bigbee, Baunetta Watson, Iris Siske and Clarice and Farel, in infancy.
