Marvin E. Leichsenring, 85, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Amana, died Jan. 27, 2013, in Chandler, Ariz. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Velda Rose Methodist Church in Mesa. Burial will be at a later date in Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Lorna E.; daughter, Shelly Hawkins; sister, Marjorie Rettig; and grandsons, Evan Michael and Aaron Thomas Hawkins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Lina [Berger] Leichsenring.

During World War II, Marvin was called into active service in September 1946 and honorably discharged in March 1948, at which time he was with the 96th Military Government Group at Chonju, Korea. He then attended the University of Iowa, Iowa City, from September 1948 to 1950. At that time he was recalled from inactive reserve in September 1950 to active duty when the Korean war broke out and served with Headquarters, Japan Replacement Training Center in Yokahama, Japan, He was again honorably discharged in March 1952.

He was employed for 38 years at Amana Refrigeration, Amana, as a foreman, brazing and refrigeration technician, and retired in 1989. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Mesa, Ariz., in 1993.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Iowa City, and regularly attended Velda Rose Methodist Church, Mesa, Ariz. He pursued his hobbies of woodworking, extensive traveling, gardening and golf.
