Funeral services for Edward A. Becker, age 75, of Fayetteville, will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Joswin Thundathil, cmi, officiating. Mr. Becker passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013, in Huntsville Hospital.

A native of Leavenworth, KS, he was the son of the late Edward P. and Gertrude Doman Becker. Mr. Becker was a retired engineer from Amana Refrigeration and was a member of the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. He was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus and was the former Grand Knight.

Mr. Becker is survived by his wife, Barbara Becker of Fayetteville. He is also survived by, two daughters, Cheryl Scott and husband Harold, of Fairfax, IA and Lori Kervin and husband Jeff, of Hoover, AL and two sons, Edward Becker and wife Laura, of Stewartville, MN, and Greg Becker and wife Karen, of Lake Forrest, IL. He was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mr. Becker was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Becker Threefoot.

On August 29th, 1959, Edward married the love of his life, Barbara J. Montgomery, who would stay by his side for the next 53 years. Edward A. Becker graduated from Kansas State University in 1960, with a BS in mechanical engineering. He and Barbara began their life together in St. Charles, MO and in 1960, became a threesome by adding their daughter, Cheryl. Three more children were to follow, along with moves to Ferguson, MO; Cedar Rapids, IA and finally, Fayetteville TN. Throughout his life, Edward made his church, his family, and his work his priorities. Faithfully going above and beyond, when possible, becoming an important part of each parish they joined. His family benefited from his desire to keep them a close knit unit. When they were young, it began with camping on weekends, evolving to most summer weekends spent together boating on the nearby lake. He continued this resolve until the last of the four moved away. Still, visiting mom and dad usually meant a trip to the lake! He worked for Amana Refrigeration in Amana, Iowa from 1972 until 1993, when he transferred to their location in Fayetteville, TN. He retired from Amana in 1996. After retiring, he and Barbara began a new stage of their life, participating and leading activities at their church, St. Anthony’s. They also began traveling extensively and enjoyed visiting their children. Ed also used this time to concentrate on his wood working, a hobby that was to benefit his entire family with pieces of furniture ‘made by Dad’. His woodwork was a fine example of how he led his life. Orderly, carefully measured and treated tenderly with love. We will all miss him so very much.

Visitation with the family will be Friday evening 5-8 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church or CCFA (Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America)
