Dorothy M. LeVin, 84, Minnetonka, Minn., formerly of Sublette, Ill., died peacefully Dec. 17, 2012, at Freedom Pointe Assisted Living Communities.

Cremation rites were accorded and a memorial service will be held at a later date at the Genoa Bluffs Cemetery.

Dorothy M. LeVin was born May 6, 1928, in Williamsburg, the oldest daughter of Herman and Maude (Kahler) Heitman. She graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1945.

She married Wallace (Wally) Smith in February of 1949. They moved to the Smith family farm outside of Ladora where they were blessed with two daughters, Diane and Lisa.

After leaving the farm, they bought the Gaslight Motel, Ottumwa, where they worked together running the motel and cafe.

They divorced two years later and she went to work at the Holiday Inn as a front desk clerk. That was where she met her husband, Robert (Bob) LeVin. H traveled often for his position with AT&T and they formed a loving friendship. They married in June of 1973, retiring to Sublette. They spent many years traveling the United States in their motor home, bird watching, taking pictures and enjoying the outdoors.

She was a member of the ABA with an extensive lifetime birding list, an avid Audubon Society member and took part in the Woodhaven Nature Club. She was also a member of the Homemakers of America. She enjoyed many crafts such as needlepoint and cross stitching. She was greatly loved and will be missed by those close to her.

LeVin is survived by two children, Diane (Smith) Wilkinson, Glendale, Ariz., and Lisa (Smith) Baker, Eden Prairie, Minn.; one sister, Shirley Witte, North English, and a step-grandson, Brady Buchholz, St. James City, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents and a stepdaughter, Anna May.
