Orville Baack, 90

Celebration of life service for Orville J.W. Baack, 90, Williamsburg, was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Williamsburg. He died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at the Highland Ridge Care Center, Williamsburg.

The Rev. Richard Meyer officiated at the service. Organist was Connie Von Ahsen.

Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Casket bearers were David Heitshusen, Bruce Heitshusen, Bruce Doehrmann, Craig Stanerson, Steve Stanerson and Mark Stanerson.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Oxford American Legion.

Orville John William Baack was born Aug. 27, 1922, near Homestead, the son of Diedrich and Emma (Kummer) Baack. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Homestead. He attended country school and served in the United States Army Medical Corp, His first training was in Ft. Jackson, S.C., and later he was stationed in the Philippines during World War II.

He married Dorothy Emma Heitshusen July 2, 1943, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, near Williamsburg. They lived and farmed south of Homestead for 68 years before moving to Williamsburg in 2001.

He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served on the Immanuel Lutheran School Board. He was a past member of the Oxford American Legion.

He enjoyed going to the sale barn to watch the sale and have a piece of pie.

Baack is survived by two sons, James and Marcia Baack, Williamsburg, and Donald and Christina Baack, Arlington, Texas; six granddaughters, Lynn and John Gahring, Amy and Doug Harrison, Rose and Paul Cutting, Emmie and fiance Phillip Jones, Brandi and Billy Roe and Amber Baack; 10 great-grandchildren, Logan, Grayson and Abbie Gahring, Tucker, Garrett and Samantha Harrison, Asa and Tilla and Ella Cutting and Bailey Roe; two sisters-in-law, Myrle Stanerson, Williamsburg, and JoAnne Baack, Cedar Rapids, and one brother-in-law, Clifford Heitshusen, Williamsburg.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, in 2012; his parents and two brothers, Ivan Baack and Clifford Baack.
