Allen Clinton, 71

Memorial service for Allen C. “Charley” Clinton, 71, Norway, was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Walford. He died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Colonial Manor of Amana following a brief illness.

The Rev. David Mosher officiated at the service.
A memorial fund has been established.

Allen Charles Clinton was born Dec. 29, 1941, in Lansing, the son of Erwin and Ruth Sadler Clinton. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years, stationed on the U.S.S. Independence, based in Norfolk, Va., and then two years with the reserves.

He married Iva Meyer June 8, 1969, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, rural Sumner. He owned and operated his own hauling business for the last 25 years.

He enjoyed playing cards, working crossword and sudoku puzzles, reading and computer games. He also like to go to the casinos. But most of all, he enjoyed recycling people’s throw-aways. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Walford.

Clinton is survived by his wife, Iva; two daughters, Crystal and Derick Sebring, Davenport, and Jolene and Simon Austin, Squamish, BC, Canada; one son, Vance Clinton, Walford; six grandchildren, Jack and Michael Austin, Squamish, and Hannah, Brooke, Abigale and Madison Sebring, Davenport; siblings, Bill and Pam Clinton and Bob and Kay Clinton, all Cedar Rapids; James and Janie Clinton, Tama; Carol Sawyer, Marion; Barb and David Hearron, Cedar Rapids, and Kathy Ballew, Hiawatha.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ed and Erwin Jr., and three sisters, Rosalee Bryant, Sherry Werner and Elaine Myers.
