Funeral service for Jeffrey L. “Gus” Schumacher, 54, High Amana, was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, at the Middle Amana Community Church. He died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at Marengo Memorial Hospital.

Church elder Emilie Hoppe officiated at the service.

Burial was in the High Amana Cemetery. Casket bearers were Scott Oehl, Spencer Stumpff, Nate Setzer, Nate Meese, Colton Williams and Jerry Kilpatrick. Honorary casket bearers were Ivan Hartley, Dick Kohl and Jake Milder.

A memorial fund has been established.

Jeffrey Lynn Schumacher was born June 1, 1958, in Iowa City, the son of Ronald and Shirley Wardenburg Schumacher. He graduated from Amana High School in 1976 and was employed with Wendler Construction, doing concrete work.

He married Rebecca Stumpff in 1981 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Norway. The couple later divorced.

He was an avid Viking and Hawkeye football fan. He enjoyed playing euchre and bean bag toss and was fond of cats. The family wishes to proudly acknowledge that he was a donor to the Iowa Donor Network Program.

Schumacher is survived by one son, Tyler Schumacher, Iowa City; his mother, Shirley Burns, Oxford; two brothers, Mark and Shelly, Amana, and Kevin and Teresa, Jefferson City, Mo.; one sister, Connie and John Pegump, Walford, and his significant other, Julie Jeck, High Amana.

He was preceded in death by his father.
