Rodney Groff, 69

Funeral service for Rodney “Ron” E. Groff, 69, rural Wellman, was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Powell Funeral Home, Wellman. He died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Marvin Yoder officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Wellman Cemetery.

Memorials may be made for the Wellman Fire Department and Wellman Ambulance.

Rodney Edward Groff was born April 17, 1943, in Iowa City, the son of Willard “Bill” and Irene (Blumenstein) Groff. He attended Green Center rural school.

He married Judith Schantz Nov. 25, 1961. They were blessed with four daughters.

He married Cindy Geinzer Sept. 6, 1998.

He farmed and was a heavy equipment operator for Daniel Keith Yoder and Son and Dreams Unlimited. He was a very loyal person, loved animals and loved the land. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and raising baby chicks.

Groff is survived by his wife, Cindy, Wellman; four daughters, Cynthia Charbon, Columbus Junction; Crystal Humble, Wellman, Margaret and Brian Wardenburg, Williamsburg, and Michaele Kerr, North English; one stepdaughter, Stacey and Martin Rojas, Newport News, Va.; one stepson, Carl Benson, Coralville; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two sisters, Sharrie Groff, Wellman, and Darlene Gingerich, Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Gale Charbon, and a grandson, Michael Humble.
