BORN: July 30, 1909
DIED: December 12, 2012
LOCATION: Marengo, Iowa

Funeral service for Vernon “Bus” Vercande, 103, was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, Victor. He died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo.

The Rev. Brian Shepley officiated at the service. Organist was Marylyn Kriegel.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Casket bearers were Diane Condrick, Andy Kline, Jerome Kline, Bruce Kline, Curtis Kline and Amy Merfeld. Honorary casket bearers were his grandchildren.

Vercande is survived by three daughters, Fern and Don Merfeld, Cedar Rapids; Trudy Kline, Douds, and Rose Vercande, Oxford Junction; one son, James and Donna Vercande, Brooklyn, Mich.; 24 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther [Thompson], in 1992; his parents; [Camil and Ines (Peirce) Vercande] one son, Gary Vercande; brothers, Lawrence “Pat” and Cloyd Vercande; sisters, Lenore Benest, Mae Zuber, Jean Disterhoft Smith and Anna Kruse and an infant sister, Irene Vercande.
