Wayne Stevens, 72

Graveside service for Wayne T. “Tom” Stevens, 72, Cedar Rapids, was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at Calvary Cemetery, Marengo. He died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at the Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, from complications of metastatic colon cancer.

The Rev. Brian Shepley officiated at the service.

Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, was in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.klosterfuneralhome.com .

A memorial fund has been established.

Wayne Thomas Stevens was born May 14, 1940, in Marengo, the son of Ben and Florence Minnaert Stevens. He graduated from Conroy High School in 1958. He worked at Wilson’s Meat Packing for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed watching Kansas City Chiefs football.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids.

He was a gentle, plain man with a dry sense of humor. He was always good for a laugh and willing to help. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Stevens is survived by two sons, Brett and Brian Stevens, both of Arizona; four grandchildren, Derik, Jacob, Timothy Stevens and Crystal Payne, all Arizona; three brothers, Dave, Marengo, and Donald and Janet and Gary and Judy, all Cedar Rapids; six sisters, Pat and Bob Seye, Victor; Marcella Hilton, Cedar Rapids; Loretta and John Booth, Sheboygan, Wis.; Mary Mumm, Marengo; Janet and Kenny Fish, Morehead City, N.C., and Beverly and Larry Neswold, Cedar Rapids; two sisters-in-law, Diane Stevens, Fairfax, and Gelene Stevens, Ankeny, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Leroy, Laverne and Bernard.
