Last Rites For R.R. Schroeder

Last rites for R. R. "Rudy" Schroeder, 74, of Marengo, retired baker and community leader, were held on Saturday, Dec. 20 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Marengo.

His widow is the former Rosalie T. Higby of Fairfield, who is also a graduate of Parsons College.

Schroeder died on Tuesday, Dec. 26 after a lingering illness with cancer.

Well known in Iowa banking circles, Schroeder was one of the original stock holders in the Iowa County Savings Bank coming to Marengo as a cashier when the bank opened in 1929. He was later executive officer and became president in 1960. He sold his interest in the bank in the spring of 1969 when he retired.

He married Rosalie T. Higby on Aug. 22, 1929 in Fairfield.

He is also survived by one brother, Oscar Schroeder of Keystone and one sister, Mrs. William (Louise) Grummer. He was preceded in death by one sister.
