Leola Voigtman, 94

Funeral service for Leola M. Voigtman, 94, Marengo, were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo. She died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo.

The Rev. Andrew Gray officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Marengo Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church Ladies Aid Kitchen Fund, the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State Fund or Essence of Life Hospice.

Leola Viola Margaret Voigtman was born Aug. 16, 1918, in Victor, the daughter of James and Christine Anna Behrens Meeks. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1936.

She married Orris Robert Voigtman May 26, 1946, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo. A lifelong area resident, she was a wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, playing bingo at area nursing homes and serving food at the Legion Hall and the church.

She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo; St. John’s Ladies Aid; the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 76 and R.S.V.P. She was a past recipient of the Iowa State Legion Auxiliary Woman of the Year Award.

Her family wishes to extend a special thank-you to Rose Haven Nursing Home and Essence of Life Hospice for the care and compassion she received.

Voigtman is survived by her children, Robert L. and Wilma, Marengo; Joan L. and Steven Hammill, Rockton, Ill.; Nancy L. and Victor DeSloover, Fredericksburg; Thomas P. and Betty, Marengo, and Timothy F., Williamsburg; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Paul and Jean Voigtman, Phoenix, Ariz., and many nieces, nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 2003; her parents and one sister, Lucille and Frank Leahy.
