While growing up, her family lived for a short time in South Dakota, while her father worked hauling rock from Mt. Rushmore as well as driving wild horses through the Badlands. They later returned to Marengo, where she attended school.

She worked at many of the restaurants in Ladora before starting Krauss Furniture Shoppe, Amana, where she worked for over 25 years. The couple moved to Victor in 1991.

They stayed very active, attending many ballgames for their sons and grandchildren. She loved to play bingo and cards in her later years. She also loved to bake and cook for friends. Her family will always remember her fried chicken and homemade noodles. She was a member of the Ladora and Victor United Methodist Churches, as well as the Ladora American Legion Auxiliary.
