Mass of the Resurrection for Katie (Kathryn) R. Birtcher, 8, Lone Tree, was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, at the Lone Tree American Legion. She died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at the University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City.

Burial was in the Lone Tree Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established.

Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Lone Tree, was in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

Kathryn Rose Birtcher was born May 21, 2004, in Mount Pleasant. She was attending third grade at Lone Tree Elementary School and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lone Tree. She was very active and involved in Girl Scouts, dance, tumbling, piano lessons, soccer, T-ball and volleyball.

She also loved cheerleading and participated in several cheerleading camps. She loved laughing, singing, music, dancing, partying, swimming, dressing up with her hats, glitter and bling, spending time with friends and family and loved “anything pink but sometimes red because that’s my grandma’s favorite color.” She was a huge fan of the Lone Tree Lions and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

She will be deeply missed by the family she lived with and was cared for by, Brian and Joanne Havel, Amber and James Mullaly, Derek, Maria and Luke Havel, Brock Amundson, Joey Birtcher, Andrew and Adrianna Howard, Nicholas Birtcher and Jessica Goodwin.

She will be missed by all her grandparents, Richard and Sandy Havel, Pauline Keeler, Bradley Birtcher, Beverly Birtcher and Barbara Birtcher and many special aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Eugene and Rose Barnett, Bruce Keeler, Joseph Birtcher, Claude and Viola Havel, Donald and Lois Michel, Edward and Doris Hartl and Thomas and Lula Barnett.
