Funeral services for John F. Rohr, 95, formerly of Marengo, were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at First Presbyterian Church, Marengo. He died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at Friendship Village, Schaumburg, Ill.

The Rev. Gerald Rife officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Marengo Cemetery with military honors.

A memorial fund has been established.

John Frederick Rohr was born May 10, 1917, in Grinnell, the son of Charles and Rosa Beck Rohr. He graduated from Grinnell High School in 1935. He worked with his family on the farm for several years, then served in the U.S. Army for three years during World War II, stationed in the South Pacific.

Upon his return, he married Betty Margaret Hull Sept. 28, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Malcom.

He owned and operated the Rohr Insurance Agency, Marengo, for many years.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Marengo, and Marengo American Legion Post 76. He was a past member of the Kiwanis Club and the Masons and he served on the Marengo Memorial Hospital Board.

Rohr is survived by his wife, Betty, Schaumburg, Ill.; two sons, Ronald and Bonnie Rohr, Schaumburg, and Richard and Ingrid Rohr, Boulder, Colo.; four grandchildren, Erick and Cindy Rohr, Elgin, Ill.; Brian Rohr, Bloomington, Ill.; Alyssa Rohr, Portland, Ore., and Susanna Rohr, Boulder, and a great-granddaughter, Tori Rohr, Elgin, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Henrietta, and four brothers, Erwin, Oscar, Carl and Loring.
