Celebration of life service for Helen M. Hamberg, 95, Williamsburg, was held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Williamsburg. She died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at the English Valley Care Center, North English.

The Rev. John Tunnicliff officiated at the service. Musical selections included “I Can Only Imagine,” “Amazing Grace” and “In The Garden.”

Burial was at 3 p.m. in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cantril. Casket bearers were Jay Paradies, Craig Schwarting, Stacey Levell, Christopher Paradies, Matt Owen, Dexter Hillier, Bill Byrn, David Paradies, Jeremi Lown and Dave Mort. Honorary casket bearers were Robert Hamberg, Steve Gander, Lloyd Schropp, James Riess and Duane Martinson.

A general memorial fund has been established.

Helen Maxine Hamberg was born July 10, 1917, in Stringtown, the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Harrison and Alice Grace (Campbell) Cortum. She attended school at Troy and Pulaski.

She was a telephone operator for the Pulaski Telephone Company for many years.

She married Edgar Burton Hamberg Nov. 8, 1945, in Bloomfield. They made their home in Cantril, Vincent, Van Horne, East Amana and Conroy. Following her husband’s death in 1990, she moved to Williamsburg.

She was a member of the Cantril Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and most of all, her family.

Hamberg is survived by five children, Evelyn and Fred Paradies, Wichita, Kan.; Alice and Fred Lombard, Des Moines, and Karen White, Frank Hamberg and Linda and Allen Schwarting, all Williamsburg; eight grandchildren, Jay and Betsy Paradies, Patti and Dave Mort, Penny Paradies, Melody and Dexter Hillier, Stacy and Melissa Levell, Sabrina and Matt Owen, Samantha and Jeremi Lown and Craig Schwarting and Tawnia Knapp; one grand-daughter-in-law, Kathy Paradies; 13 great-grandchildren, David and Stephanie Paradies, Rachel Byrn, Christopher Paradies, Dannyelle Hillier, Leah, Owen, Keyden and Kailor Lown, Autumn Burroughs, Brittany, Ryan, Savannah and Sierra Levell; six great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Marian Claman, Cantril.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Bob Paradies; one son-in-law, Butch White Jr.; three sisters, Leona, Catherine and Marilyn, and one brother, Leland Cortum.
