Memorial services for Erla M. Jones, 92, Williamsburg, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at First Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg. She died peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at Mercy Hospice, Iowa City, following a brief illness.

The Rev. Kip Murphy will officiate at the service.

Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Williamsburg.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at the church.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg, or the Williamsburg Public Library.

Erla May Jones was born in rural Lanesboro, the daughter of Earl E. and Lucile Ransom Enochson.

She attended a one-room country schoolhouse.

After graduating from Williamsburg High School in 1937, she began working at Security Savings Bank, Williamsburg.

She married Harry David Jones Nov. 24, 1943, while he was home on leave. She left the bank to raise her children, returning when they were all in school. She retired from the bank in 1982 as an assistant cashier.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg; Presbyterian Women’s Association and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a lifelong flower gardener. She was an avid reader and crossword puzzler.

Up until three weeks before her death, she still proudly lived at home, gardening and driving herself to the library. She was also an accomplished craftsperson who sewed, upholstered and was skilled in many forms of needlecraft, making many treasured quilts.

Jones is survived by her children, Jeri Jones and Thomas Lemons, Bettendorf; Kenneth and Marsha Jones, Williamsburg; Gregory Jones, Iowa City, and Evan Jones and Deborah Hufford, Mequon, Wis.; three grandchildren, Jennifer and Dan Rutan, Roseville, Calif.; Christopher and Nicole Jones, San Francisco, Calif., and Sophia Jones, Washington, D.C., and two great-grandchildren, Madeline and Caden Rutan, Roseville.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers, Donald and Keith Enochson, and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Joan Enochson.
