Funeral services for William P. Ohlen, 71, Blairstown, were held Saturday, Aug. 25, at Grace Lutheran Church, Blairstown. He died Aug. 22, 2012, on his farm west of Blairstown, surrounded by his family.

The Rev. David Rempfer officiated at the service.

Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery south of Blairstown.

A memorial fund has been established.

William Paul Ohlen was born July 11, 1941, the son of Paul and Donna (Kading) Ohlen at Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Blairstown High School in 1959.

He married Cynthia Holmes in 1961 and they were blessed with three children, Todd, Kimberly and Julie. The couple later divorced.

He married Marsha Strong April 4, 1996, at Marengo.

He spent his entire life on the farm and loved every minute of it. He was raised, lived, worked and died on the family farm. Family was always the center of his life, he always put family first.

He was a wonderful husband, father, step-father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He would often sit on the front porch and wave to his many friends as they went by or go for long rides in the country in his truck.

He also loved to take trips, driving his motor home. In his leisure, he enjoyed showing cattle with his children, traveling, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and camping. He enjoyed many campfires at the lake with family and friends.

Ohlen is survived by his wife, Marsha, Blairstown; his children, Todd Ohlen, Atlanta, Ga., and his daughter Megan, Chicago, Ill.; Kimberly Ohlen, Cedar Rapids, and Julie and Paul Lynn and their children, Colton, Mackenzie, Hunter and Dalton, all Victor; his step-children, Chad and Sherry Mattison and their children, Baylea and Grant Hinrichs and Ryann, all Marengo; Melissa and Jeff Miller and their daughter Abbie, all Cedar Rapids; his sister, Bette Lee, Norway, and a special cousin, Robert and Jean Ohlen, Blairstown.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Bonnie Stallman.
