Funeral services for John J. Wilkinson, 90, Laughlin, Nev., formerly of Marengo, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. He died Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, in Bullhead City, Ariz.

The Rev. Joseph Roost officiated at the service.

Burial with military honors was in the Koszta Cemetery, rural Marengo.

Memorials may be made to Marengo American Legion Post 76, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo, or St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Laughlin.

John James Wilkinson was born June 22, 1922, in Grand Island, Neb., the son of W.J. and Florence Pazour Wilkinson. He graduated from Marengo High School in 1940 and received his law degree in 1948. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean Conflict. At the time of his discharge, he had attained the rank of major.

He married Barbara Tompkins Nov. 8, 1946, in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo. He practiced law in Marengo for many years, serving as Iowa County attorney.

He was a member of Marengo American Legion Post 76, the Kiwanis Club and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

He retired in 1980 and the couple moved to Laughlin, Nev., in 1986. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Laughlin.

Wilkinson is survived by his wife, Barbara; one son, John Jr. and Jennifer, Germantown, Tenn.; one daughter, Leslie, Laughlin, and one sister, Joan and Denis Sullivan, Omaha, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, W.J. Wilkinson Jr.
