Funeral services for Marjorie L. Miller, 78, Twin Falls, Idaho, formerly of Parnell, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at Reynolds Funeral Chapel, Twin Falls. She was called home by her heavenly Father Aug. 20, 2012, at the Twin Falls Care Center.

Memorials may be made to the Idaho/Eastern Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation or the Gideons International Memorial Bible Plan.

Marjorie Lucille Miller was born Oct. 8, 1933, in Parnell, the daughter of Clarence and Sarah (Slaubaugh) Detweiler. She attended Poplar Grove country grade school in rural Iowa and graduated from Iowa Mennonite High School near Kalona.

As a young girl she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined the West Union Mennonite Church, dedicating her life to living her faith among those around her.

After one-year of pre-nursing at Hesston College, Hesston, Kan., she fulfilled her childhood dream when she graduated from the LaJunta Mennonite School of Nursing, LaJunta, Colo., with a registered nurse’s degree. True to her caring and compassionate personality, she was also awarded “Best Bedside Nurse” of her nursing class at graduation.

She married Floyd Miller Jr., of Twin Falls, July 5, 1958, at the West Union Mennoite Church near Wellman. After a short honeymoon to Yellowstone National Park, they started their life together in Twin Falls.

She immediately started her nursing career two days after returning from their honeymoon at the Twin Falls County Hospital and soon was promoted to charge nurse of the pediatrics department where she worked for a number of years.

She retired from nursing when they purchased Rock Creek Mobile Manor and helped in the operation of that facility for the next 27 years. She continued to be eager to “poke” her husband at every opportunity but refused to give his horses a shot because it might hurt them.

She was very active in her Filer, Idaho, Mennonite Church, the Auxiliary of the Gideons International and many aspects of her Lions Club, including district Lions activities and Lions Clubs International. She was very actively involved with her husband when he served two years as an international director of the Lions Clubs International Association and they enjoyed traveling to many parts of the world.

She was quick to make friends with everyone and quickly endeared herself to family and friends with her infectious giggle and quick-response one-liners, especially when they were directed at her husband. She also thoroughly enjoyed her god-daughter, Rhonda (Faulkner) Gatliff and the six exchange students hosted by the Millers during the past years.

She will be missed by all who knew her for her ready smile, sense of humor and interest in others.

Miller is survived by her husband of 54 years, Floyd; two brothers, Marion and Rosemary Detweiler, Williamsburg, and Wallace and Elizabeth Detweiler, Morson, Ontario, Canada; one god-daughter, Rhonda (Faulkner) Gatliff, Fremont, Calif.; brothers-in-law, William J. and Sharon Miller, Clam Gulch, Alaska; Edward and Jan Miller, Medford, Ore.; R. Keith and Vickie Miller, Nampa, Idaho; sisters-in-law, Nadine Miller, Hutchinson, Kan.; Rita and Emerson Miller, Caldwell, Idaho; Connie and Neal Anderson, Bend, Ore.; Bonnie and Boba Gerig, Lebanon, Ore.; step-brother, Dale Snyder, Winnemuca, Nev.; two step-sisters, Joyce and Vern Yost, Westminster, Colo., and Carol John, Eugene, Ore., and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Cecil Detweiler; one sister, Trula (Detweiler) Zimmerly, and one brother-in-law, Clifford and Nadine Miller.
