Celebration of life service for Ray “Jim” M. Smith, 72, Millersburg, was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Powell Funeral Home, North English. He died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, at Marengo Memorial Hospital.

Chaplain Rebecca Carver officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Millersburg Cemetery.

A general memorial fund has been established.

Ray “Jim” M. Smith was born Sept. 22, 1939, in Iowa City, the son of Harley Ray and Agnes Katherine (Brogard) Smith. He graduated from Kalona High School in 1958.

He married Bonnie L. Scurr Aug. 12, 1989, in Iowa City. They lived in the North Liberty area before moving to Millersburg, where they resided for the last 20 years.

He farmed and raised horses before retiring in 2002. He enjoyed gambling, farming, going to many horse sales, auctions, flea markets and spending time with his family and friends.

Smith is survived by his wife, Bonnie, Millersburg; his children, Jimmie Smith, Des Moines, and Carmen McShane, Bondurant, and four other children; 11 grandchildren and one sister, Anna Mae Bissell, Hiawatha.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
