Funeral Mass for Russell E. Grout, 63, Marengo, was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo. He died Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, in a semi-truck accident.

The Rev. Joseph Roost officiated at the service.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Marengo, with military honors.

A memorial fund has been established.

Russell Earl Grout was born June 5, 1949, in Iowa City, the son of Earl Burton and Dorotha Laverne Smalley Grout. He attended Riverside schools and graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in 1967. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 1968 to 1974. He attended trade school for training in mechanics. Most recently he was employed as a truck driver for Manatt’s Inc., Brooklyn.

He married Karen Kay Kasper June 4, 1977, at the Kalona United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed calling bingo at the American Legion Hall in Marengo. He was a member of Marengo American Legion Post 76, of which he was the vice commander. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.

Grout is survived by his wife, Karen; two daughters, Rhonda and Robert Pudil, Iowa City, and Gretchen and Jon Kochuyt, Marengo; two step-grandchildren, Zach and Ashley Kochuyt; a soon-to-be step-great-granddaughter and one sister, Rita and John Wenger, Sarcoxie, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Victoria Wenger.
