Funeral services for Dwane M. Snyder, 74, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at the West Union Mennonite Church, rural Parnell. He died Aug. 6, 2012, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.

The Rev. Corey Miller officiated at the service.

Burial was in the West Union Cemetery, rural Parnell.

Memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice or Mercy Ships.

Peterseim Funeral Home, Kalona, was in charge of arrangements.

Dwane Snyder was born Sept. 21, 1937, near Kalona, the son of Andrew Grant and Dora Alice Kempf Snyder. He lived with his parents in Colorado Springs, Colo., from age 8 to 17 years old. Since then, he had lived in the Kalona, Parnell and Williamsburg communities.

He married Annie Irene Schlabach July 31, 1958, at the Parnell Mennonite Church. He farmed for 17 years and then was employed at United Technologies Automotive, Iowa City, in maintenance, until retiring.

He was a volunteer at Crowded Closet, enjoyed sewing jeans comforters and collecting toy tractors.

Snyder is survived by his wife of 54 years, Annie; five children, Larry Leon and Valerie Snyder and Bernice Marie and Michael Marner, all Parnell; Beverly Irene and Marcus Helmuth and Earl Dean and Kimberly Snyder, all Sarasota, Fla., and Neva Colleen and Randy Sperr, Garden Valley, Texas; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandsons and one sister, Thelma Gragg, Williamsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a stillborn son; one grandson, Patrick Marner, and an infant brother, Marvin Dean Snyder.
