The family of James L. Goodman, 75, was just notifed that he had passed away July 6, 2012, in a hospital in Las Vegas, Nev., due to heart-related complications.

James Goodman was born Nov. 10, 1936, in Keota, the son of Clarence (Rocky) and Geraldine Goodman. He and his mother moved to Alaska in 1945 when housing became available to join his father, who was employed by the Alaska Road Commission, Glenn Allen, Alaska.

He completed school at Palmer, Alaska, High School in 1954. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army for four years. Two years, he spent at Fort Carson, Colorado; six months in Germany and he concluded his service in Glen Burney, Md.

After his enlistment, he returned to Alaska and married Arlene Harris, Juneau, Alaska. He owned the Western Auto store in Palmer, Alaska, for more than 20 years.

He married Weslene Elmore in 1980 and continued to own and operate the Ace Hardware until his health failed in 1997 and shortly thereafter he moved to Las Vegas with his wife.

Goodman is survived by his mother, Geraldine Goodman, and one brother, Robert (Bob) Palmer, Alaska.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Weslene, in 2011, and one son, Rick, in 2012.
