Funeral services for Harold Maas, 88, Blairstown, were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at Grace Lutheran Church, Blairstown. He died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, surrounded by his family, at Colonial Manor of Amana following a short illness.

The Rev. David Rempfer officiated at the service.

Burial was in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Newhall.

Memorials may be made to Central Lutheran School, Newhall; Grace Lutheran Church, Blairstown, and in memory of his wife to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, was in charge of arrangements.

Harold Maas was born Sept. 24, 1923, in Conroy, the son of Albert and Wilemine (Folkman) Maas. He served in the Navy during World War II.

He married Regina Hopp Sept. 7, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Conroy. He worked as a farmer and custom corn sheller for many years.

The couple loved to play cards and travel to see their children and grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching the Chicago Cubs. He will be remembered as a hardworking and religious man who was a wonderful and committed husband, dad, grandpa, brother and friend.

He was preceded in death by his wife, on June 11, 2010; his parents; one grandson, Cody Stults, and an infant brother, Gilbert.
