Died, at his late residence, one mile east of this city, Saturday, April 5, 1890, Mr. John W. Evans, aged 46 years, 5 months and 5 days.

Mr. Evans was a babe in his mother's arms when they settled in Troy township in 1844, and has grown to childhood, young manhood and to middle age in this locality, and in all the relations of life he has shown himself to be a genuine christian gentleman, one that enjoyed the confidence and esteem of a large circle of friends and acquaintances.

He leaves an aged mother, wife , four children, three brothers, three sisters, and a host of relatives and friends to mourn the loss of son, husband, father, brother and friend. His was a life of purity, and his death only the passport to an elysian land of perpetual summer, there to meet father and other members of the family who are now basking in the sunlight of that happy land of the "leal", beyond death's solemn portals.

The funeral services were held at the family residence Monday afternoon. The Revs. Roberts and Joseph officiating, assisted by Revs. McFarland and Osborn. A large gathering of sympathizing friends followed the remains to the silent home of the dead.

Thus closes a useful life, so far as this vale of tears reaches, but beyond the "pearly gates."
