Graveside services for William L. O’Meara, 85, Chicago, Ill., will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 16, at the St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery near Millersburg, followed by a memorial Mass at 10 a.m. St. Joseph Catholic Church, North English. He died June 7, 2012, at his home, the Clare at Water Tower, Chicago.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Saturday, June 9, at the Chapel at the Clare, Chicago.
Memorials may be made to Catholic Charities, 721 N. LaSalle St., Chicago, Ill. 60610 or the donor’s choice.

William L. O’Meara was born July 7, 1926, in Iowa County, the son of Michael J. and Agnes Loretta (Berry) O’Meara. He graduated from Millersburg High School in 1943.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Germany from 1944 to 1946. After returning home, he attended business school at the University of Iowa. He worked for Price Waterhouse and retired as an executive with John Morrell and Company.

He made his home in Chicago for more than 50 years and took great enjoyment in hosting family and friends who visited him there. His sharp sense of humor was familiar to all who knew him, as was his sincere attention to detail, which served him well in his professional and personal endeavors.

He touched so many with his kindness and generosity and taught all of us to enjoy life. He will be remembered most for the pleasures he found with and special attention he paid to all of his many family and friends.

O’Meara is survived by two brothers and their wives, Clement and Connie O’Meara, Northfield, Minn., and Hugh and Irene O’Meara, Williamsburg; two sisters and their husbands, Mary and Bob Wagner and Helen and John Gaffey, all Williamsburg, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald O’Meara and wife Pat and Cyril O’Meara and wife Janice; one niece, Christy Gaffey and one nephew, Mick Gaffey.
