Memorial services for Richard “Dean” Fontinel, 87, Victor, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 11, at Smith Funeral Home, Victor. He died Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo.

The Rev. Jim Davis, Victor New Covenant Parish, officiated at the service.

Inurnment was in Victor Memorial Cemetery.

Richard “Dean” Fontinel was born July 1, 1924, the son of Alfred and Laurabelle Carter Fontinel, in Albia. He was raised in several communities in the surrounding area, residing primarily in Victor.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a first class seaman and was stationed overseas throughout most of his military career. Following the war, he returned to Victor and became associated with his father in the family business, Fontinel Produce. He later purchased and ran the business. When he sold the business, he joined Kinze Manufacturing, Marengo, and worked as assembly supervisor, retiring in 1980.
He married Wilma “Jean” Mason Aug. 13, 1979, in Leslie, Ark.

He enjoyed traveling to California to visit his family and one of his most memorable trips was to Alaska after retirement. He had a passion for hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

He was a 65-year member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion.

Fontinel is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jean; three daughters and their husbands, Kristie and Doug Blesie, Florence, S.C.; Joy and Dean Dolmadge, Victor, and Laurie Chapman, Woodburn; two sons, Thomas Fontinel, Victor, and Timothy Fontinel and wife Lisa, Blairstown; stepchildren and their spouses, Douglas and Diane Foxworthy, Hesperia, Calif.; Karen and Damon Lohry, Sioux City, and Connie and Larry Logeman, St. Cloud, Minn.; three sisters, Dorothy Mohr, Peoria, Ariz.; Betty Dawson and husband Dean, Templeton, Calif., and Virginia Dennis, Glendale, Calif., and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Joan Reeves, and one brother and one sister, both in infancy.
