Funeral services for Noel E. Siems, 91, Middle Amana, were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 1, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Iowa City. He died Monday, May 28, 2012, at University Hospital, Iowa City, following a short illness.

The Rev. Brent Hartwig officiated at the service.

Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City, with military honors. Pallbearers were James R. Siems, Shannon Siems, Jim C. Siems, Gary Bosenberg, Gary Beltz and Jeff Mumm.

Memorials may be made to the Iowa City American Legion or Moving Forward at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Gay and Ciha Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Iowa City, was in charge of arrangements.

Noel E. Siems was born Dec. 25, 1920, in Iowa County, the son of Fred and Elizabeth Hofmaster Siems. He attended school in Williamsburg. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a truck driver in the South Pacific. He attended an honor flight for World War II veterans in 2010.

He married Norma Martinson Nov. 10, 1945, in Iowa County. She died in 1987.

He married Irene Mumm Oct. 23, 1997, in Cedar Rapids.

He farmed near Williamsburg and drove a gasoline transport truck. He started Iowa City Excavating and Grading Inc. in June 1962. The business will celebrate 50 years in June.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids; was a charter member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Iowa City, and was a member of the American Legion.

He enjoyed spending winters in Mesa, Ariz.; antiques; attending the Old Threshers Reunion in Mount Pleasant and spending time with family and friends.

Siems is survived by his wife, Irene; two sons and their wives, Robert and Jeanne, North Liberty and Wayne and Diane Siems, Oxford; three daughters, Sandra Beltz, Karen Fults and husband Skip, and Kathy Siems, all Iowa City; one sister, Rachel Gerard, Marengo; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three stepchildren; two brothers-in-law, Merlyn Martinson, Marengo, and Milford Martinson and wife Nancy, Williamsburg, and two sisters-in-law, Joyce Mumm, Williamsburg, and Leona Loyd and husband Luke, Cedar Rapids.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one stepdaughter, Bernice Olson; one son-in-law, Dave Beltz; one brother, Carrol Siems; two sisters, Mildred Siems and Wilma Landyt, and one brother-in-law, Irvin Martinson.
