Graveside memorial services for Waunetta M. Fruendt, 87, Williamsburg, were held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 4, at the Victor Memorial Cemetery. She died Thursday, May 31, 2012, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.

The Rev. Richard Meyer officiated at the service.

Memorials may be made to the Holden Cancer Center, University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City.

Wuanetta Marie Fruendt was born Aug. 21, 1924, in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Elmer H. Johnson and Blanche E. Besco Johnson. She received her elementary education in the Mahaska County schools and graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1941.

She married Keith Minard in 1942. He was killed while fighting during World War II. She worked at Consolidated Aircraft in San Diego, Calif., during that time. She returned to Iowa in 1945.

She married Melvin L. Fruendt Nov. 7, 1946, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Victor. The couple farmed for many years, retiring in 1990. They moved into Williamsburg at that time. She was employed as a cashier and hostess at several Little Amana businesses. Her husband died in 1999.

She enjoyed quilting and most recently was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Williamsburg.

Fruendt is survived by a niece, two grandnephews, a grandniece and several great-grandnephews and great-grandnieces.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Bernice Watts; one brother-in-law, Keith Watts, and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Lindenmayer.
