Memorial services for Charles “Charlie” E. Myers, 85, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marengo, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at the First Presbyterian Church, Marengo. He died Monday, April 30, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his family.

The Rev. Gerald Rife officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Marengo Cemetery, next to his first wife, parents and sisters, with military honors.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Marengo; St. James Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, or Iowa Hospice, Cedar Rapids.

Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, was in charge of arrangements.

Charles Eugene Myers was born Nov. 7, 1926, in the Myers’ family home three miles south of Marengo. He was the only son of Howard Levi and Helen Minnie Hunzelman Myers. His two older sisters, Ethel “Beth” E. Adreon and Arlene H. Feiereisen, passed before him.

He graduated from Carson High School, Marengo, and attended the University of Iowa, Iowa City. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a staff sergeant crew chief on P-51 fighter aircraft at Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, Nev.

In addition to being a farmer, he had his own business as an electrical contractor. He was an avid bowler and was the first person to bowl a 700 series in official league play at Lucky Six Lanes, Marengo. He also enjoyed watching and feeding birds, roller skating, Bible study, playing cards and watching sports on television.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Marengo American Legion Post 76, El Kahir Shrine and the P-3 Retirees of Cedar Rapids.

He met his first wife and mother of his children, Evelyn Faye Turner Myers, in Las Vegas when she was playing baseball with friends. They were married Sept. 1, 1950, in Las Vegas. In 1996, she passed away at the Myers’ home.

He met his second wife, Ava Mae Allman Myers, through his daughter. They were married April 29, 2000, in Cedar Rapids. They resided on the farm for nine years until they moved to their present home in Cedar Rapids.

Charlie will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.

Myers is survived by his wife, Eva; his five children and their spouses, Charles “Chuck” H. and Carla Myers, Hartford; Anthony “Tony” M.J. and Nancy Myers, Green Bay, Wis.; Michele “Mickie” F. and Jerry Johnson, Houston, Texas; Andrea D. and Doug Young, Mead, Colo., and Matthew E. and Kelly Myers, Spokane, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Edna Allman; sister-in-law and her husband, Carolyn and Lee Cooper; brother-in-law and his wife, Ed and Doris Allman; three stepchildren and their spouses, Teri and Dave Svoboda, Stephanie and Matt French and Wendy and Roger Schmitz; six step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
