Mass of the Resurrection for Charlotte E. Pirkl, 88, Victor, was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 8, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, Victor. She died Monday, April 4, 2011, at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo.

The Rev. Brian Shepley officiated at the service. Organist was Marilyn Kriegel and vocalist was Anna Upah.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Victor. Casket bearers were her grandsons, Brian Behrens, Kevin DeMeulenaere, Kraig DeMeulenaere, Eric Henry, A.J. Pirkl, Adam Pirkl, Chad Pirkl, Dale Pirkl, David Pirkl, Dennis Pirkl and Jared Pirkl.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Cemetery, Victor, or Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo.
Smith Funeral Home, Victor, was in charge of arrangements.

Charlotte E. Pirkl was born March 14, 1923, on the family farm near Keswick, the daughter of John and Charlotte Wagner O’Rourke. She attended rural school and graduated from Keswick High School in 1941. She attended beauty school in Ottumwa following high school.

She married Charles Pirkl Jan. 23, 1942, in Williamsburg. The couple operated a grain and dairy farm south of Victor for 35 years. She assisted with the farm operation and was a mother of eight children. She was also a hairdresser.

She was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church, the O.C.C.W. and the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed dancing and attending her children’s sports and school activities. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal and Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Pirkl is survived by her children and their spouses, Charlene and Wayne DeMeulenaere, Hartwick; Bill and Phyllis Pirkl, North English; Jim and Mary Pirkl, Belle Plaine; Tom and Linda Pirkl, Grinnell; Shirley Behrens, Marengo; and Bob Pirkl, Don and Diane Pirkl and Paul and Patty Pirkl, all Victor; 23 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mary Agnew, Williamsburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters, Agnes Kosman and Catherine Fredro, and three brothers, Tom, Lee and Leo O’Rourke.
