Celebration of life services for Naomi I. Penrod, 101, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20, at Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service. She died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.

The Rev. Jim Bringman officiated at the service.

Burial was in Yankee Point Cemetery near North English. Casket bearers were Dan Garringer, David Fanning, Bobby Kleinmeyer, Bill Kleinmeyer, Geoff Penrod and Deborah Mullan.

A general memorial fund has been established.

Naomi Ioan Penrod was born Sept. 11, 1909, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Charles Presley and Ethel Pearl (Porter) Hartgrave. She graduated from Conroy High School and lived in Iowa and Missouri.

She married Eduard Gustav Kleinmeyer Feb. 20, 1936. He died Sept. 18, 1959.

She married Guy Allen Penrod Dec. 10, 1976. He died Jan. 3, 1984. She worked for the Collins Radio Company.

She enjoyed reading, crocheting and being with her family.

Penrod is survived by her children and their spouses, Jeanne and James Garringer, Williamsburg; Edward Kleinmeyer, Cairo, Mo.; Gayle and James Fanning, Huntsville, Mo.; Judy and Eldon Penrod, Huntsville, and Mary Polhamus, What Cheer; 19 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren and four siblings, Frances Porter, Vinton; Robert Hartgrave, Fairfax; James Hartgrave, Cedar Rapids, and Betty Craddock, Vinton.

In addition to both husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert Kleinmeyer; one grandson, Randy Fanning, and eight siblings, Harold, Clyde, Clarence, Velma, Thelma, Charles, Mary and Billy.
