Celebration of life service for Nicholas “Nick” J. Weldon, 25, formerly of Iowa City, was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at Lensing Funeral Service, Iowa City. He died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, in Quartzsite, Ariz.

Burial was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Shelter House or the Wesley House Free Lunch Program.

Nicholas Jon Weldon was born Feb. 24, 1985, in Iowa City, the son of Timothy J. and Lea K. Fleener Weldon. He lived in West Branch and Iowa City prior to taking to the road. He traveled to 48 states and China. Hawaii and Alaska were on his bucket list.

He was a wanderer and free spirit. He was a caring soul who entrusted the friendship of those he met on his journey. Part of the year he would spend on the east coast and because of his dislike for winter, he spent the rest of his time on the west coast. He could be stubborn but as he experienced life he became very insightful and wise. He walked to a different drummer and cherished life, truly living one day at a time. He will be missed but will remain in our hearts and memories forever.

Weldon is survived by his parents; his sister, Gabrielle (Brie) Weldon, Iowa City; his grandmother, Vivian Weldon, Parnell; one nephew, Cody Kaplan, and numerous aunts and uncles, Pat and Gary Yauk, Peg Weldon, Jim and Sandy Weldon, Dan and Sue Weldon, Jeff and Sally Weldon, Ron Weldon, Doug and Karen Weldon, Tony and Shari Weldon, Helen Weldon, Sharon Weldon, Sam and Rita Fleener, Jane Vitko and Jack Shelburg, and special grandparents, Gordon Hull and Rose Lipsius, Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sam and Wilma Fleener and James “Red” Weldon; one aunt, Wilma Shelburg, and two uncles, John and Jim Fleener.
