Funeral services for William “Bill” Bauer, 74, Cedar Rapids, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion. He died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2010, at his home.

The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Katie Dawson will officiate at the service.

Burial will be in Millersburg Cemetery at a later date.

William Bauer was born July 29, 1936, in Millersburg, the son of Vernon R. and Mildred E. (Pope) Bauer. He graduated from Millersburg High School in 1954 and attended the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, for his undergraduate studies, graduating in 1959. He later received a master’s degree from the University of Iowa, Iowa City. He taught special education at Washington, West Branch and for many years in Cedar Rapids at McKinley and Harding grade schools.

He enjoyed being with people of all ages and attending family gatherings. His retirement years were spent playing golf and cards, watching University of Iowa basketball and football, Chicago Cubs baseball and reading.

Bauer is survived by two sisters and their husbands, Joan and John Bouslog, Marion, and Jan and Charles Lehr, Las Vegas, Nev.; one brother, Phil Bauer, Decatur, Ill.; one niece and her husband, Sue and Bill Dawson; three nephews, Jim, Jeff (Shawn) and Scott (Angelia) Bouslog; eight great-nieces and nephews and two great-great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles, in infancy.
