Bert W. Courtney, 85, died Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at Marengo Memorial Hospital.

A gathering of friends was held from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.

Inurnment will be at a later date.

Bert Wesley Courtney was born Oct. 9, 1925, in Iowa City, the son of Charles W. and Aurora Smith Courtney.

In earlier years he was a barber. He then worked as a janitor at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, until retiring.

Most recently, he resided at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo, due to failing health.

There are no immediate survivors.
