William O ‘BILL’ Brock, 1925 – 2011

A celebration of life service for William (Bill) O. Brock, 85, South English, was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, at the First Baptist Church, South English. He died Friday, March 25, 2011, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Iowa City.

The Rev. Joe Winkler officiated at the service.

Burial with military rites was in the South English Cemetery.

William O. Brock was born Aug. 15, 1925, in South English, the son of Fred David and Edna L. Sigafoose Brock. He graduated from South English High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II.

He married Doris Muriel Schauff June 2, 1945, at her home near North English. The couple were married over 55 years and dedicated their lives together to serving the South English community.

He served as South English mayor for 16 years, drove a school bus for more than 40 years and operated Bill’s Electric for years. He continued, up until his last few weeks, as a water supervisor for South English and Keswick. He was a member of the American Legion and was a former volunteer fireman.

Brock is survived by two sons and their wives, Bill and Debby Brock, Ames, and Mark and Carolyn Brock, West Branch; five grandchildren, Andrew Brock and wife Pam, Ashley Christiansen, Marcus Brock, Julie Brock and Adam Brock; three great-grandchildren, Renzo Christiansen, Ella Brock and Grant Brock, and one sister, Mary Ann Zook, Charlottesville, Va.

He was preceded in death by his wife, in March 2006, and his parents.
