Celebration of life service for Oletha Hedrick, 99, North English, was held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 4, at Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service, North English. She died Thursday, March 31, 2011, at the English Valley Care Center, North English.

The Rev. Kathy Moore and the Rev. Michelle Williamson officiated at the service.

Burial was in the North English Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established.

Oletha Hedrick was born Jan. 19, 1912, in Lucas County, near Belinda, the daughter of Thomas and Estella Umbenhower Lenig. She grew up in the Columbia, Iowa, community. She taught in the rural schools in Marion County for five years.

She married Herbert Hedrick April 28, 1937, in Knoxville. They farmed near Attica before moving to the North English community in March of 1939. They farmed until his health failed in 1977. They moved into North English in February 1980.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, North English, the Rebekah Lodge and the T and L Community Club, rural North English.

Hedrick is survived by one daughter and her husband, Gay and Robert E. Moffit, North English; three granddaughters and their husbands, Debbie and Clay Toler, Glen Alan, Va.; Sherrie and Ron Maschmann, Millersburg, and Kristi Hargis, Council Bluffs; 12 great-grandchildren, Carrie Knipfer, Riverside; Steven Knipfer, Ottumwa; Ryan Knipfer, Wessington Springs, S.D.; Megan Hall, Mechanicsville, Va.; Trenton Forrest, North English; Daniel Weldon, Glen Alan, Va.; Jeannie, Jessica and Janna Hargis, Council Bluffs; Rhonda Waters, Iowa City; Renee Maschmann, Coralville, and Michelle Koehn, North English; 11 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Vera Swearngain, Knoxville; one sister-in-law, Irene Woody, Denver, Colo.; one brother-in-law, Walter Hedrick, North English, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in June 1987; her parents; three sisters, Etha Swearngain, May and June; four brothers, Duane, Dwight, Blair and John Lenig, and one grandson-in-law, Wally Forrest.
