Dorothy R. Davis, 84, Iowa City, died Friday, March 18, 2011, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

A memorial fund has been established.

Dorothy R. Davis was born March 22, 1926, in Williamsburg, the daughter of Roderick William and Henrietta Anna Meyer Reader. She graduated from Williamsburg High School and worked for the VA Hospital for a number of years.

She married Marvin Dale Clark April 24, 1943. They later divorced.

She married Earl Davis in February of 1976.

She grew up in Williamsburg and later moved to Iowa City after she was married. She was a member of the Welsh Church, rural Iowa City, and St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Williamsburg.

She was a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed sewing in her younger years, dining out with friends, her church work and her flowers. She adored her pets, Tiger and Mimi, and doted on her grandson Sean and his children.

Davis is survived by one daughter, Susan Welsh; one grandson and his wife, Sean and Shelly Welsh; two great-grandsons, Eli and Caleb Welsh, all Williamsburg, and one brother, Thomas Reader, Streamwood, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; her parents and four brothers, Merle, George, David and Charles.
