Memorial services for Kenneth E. Huedepohl, 70, Livermore, Calif., formerly of Williamsburg, were held March 12 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pleasanton, Calif. He died peacefully [February 25, 2011], following open heart surgery at Kaiser Hospital, San Francisco, Calif., with his wife and family by his side.

Kenneth Earl Huedepohl was born May 27, 1940, in Williamsburg, the son of Lothar and Frieda [Newkirk] Huedepohl. He was raised on the family farm.

He received his bachelors degree in education from Concordia College, River Forest, Ill., and his master’s degree from Cal State Hayward. In 1962 he began his teaching career in South San Francisco at First Lutheran School. He later moved to Hayward to Grace Lutheran School.

He relocated to Pleasanton in 1968 where he taught fourth grade at Alisal Elementary School for 32 years. He celebrated his retirement in 2000.

He was a loving father, a valued friend, respected mentor and trusted confidante to many and an inspiration to all. He was always there to lend a helping hand.

His many interests included fishing, dancing, gardening, camping, playing cards and working at the Alameda County Fair. He was a gifted and talented singer. He was passionate about music and sang with various barbershop groups, church choirs and most recently, with the Ashmolean Singers. His high tenor voice was a tremendous asset to these groups, where he was often a featured soloist.

Huedepohl is survived by his wife of 27 years,Connie Davis-Huedepohl; his children, Jocelyn Tong and husband Parry, Stephanie Whittier, Denver Huedepohl, Natalie Shepard, Ethan Huedepohl and their mother, Lorraine Eldridge; one step-daughter, Lauren Davis; one sister, Barbara Hunley; one brother, Howard Huedepohl, South Amana, and eight grandchildren.

He received his Bachelors Degree in education from Concordia College, IL, during which time he met his first wife Lorraine. He then received his Masters Degree from Cal State Hayward. Ken began his teaching career in 1962 in South San Francisco. He moved to Pleasanton in 1968 where he taught 4th grade at Alisal Elementary School for 32 years and celebrated his retirement in 2000. Ken met Connie in 1983 and they were married for 27 wonderful years. He was father to six children: Joy, Steph, Denver, Natalie, Ethan, and Lauren, and a proud grandfather of eight. Ken was a loving father, a devoted husband, an incredible teacher, a valued friend, respected mentor and trusted confidante to many, and an inspiration to all. He was always there to lend a helping hand. His many interests included: fishing, dancing, gardening, camping, playing cards and working at the Alameda County Fair. He was passionate about music and sang with various barbershop groups, church choirs, and most recently with the Ashmolean Singers. He was a gifted and talented singer whose high tenor voice was a tremendous asset to these groups and we will remember it always. Ken was patient, understanding, kind, and enthusiastic. He has touched the lives of countless people and left a legacy we will never forget.
