John G. Hayes, 63, Belle Plaine, died Sept. 9, 2010, at his home from cancer.

A Celebration of Life visitation was held Sept. 13 at Hrabak Funeral Home, Belle Plaine. A private family service by Hospice Chaplain Kim Vogel preceded the visitation. Special music was provided by the family. His body was cremated.

John G. Hayes was born July 4, 1947, in Belle Plaine, the son of Howard and Alice (Tucker) Hayes.

He grew up in Marengo, Iowa, where he graduated from Iowa Valley High School in 1965. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 to 1968.

He married Florence Wilson Aug. 10, 1968, in Marengo and moved to Belle Plaine in 1974. He retired from Underwriter’s Lab after 36 years and was employed by Schnieder Electric at the time of his death.

John loved his family and friends and enjoyed watching and feeding birds.

He is survived by his wife, Florence; mother, Alice Hayes, Marengo; daughters, Alison (Scott) Foughty, Des Moines, and Johnette Hayes, Belle Plaine; grandchildren, Davis, Erica, Madison, Payton and Spencer; sisters, Elaine (Gary) Cooney, Hudson, and Gloria (Larry) Schumacher, Marengo; mother-in-law, Wilma Wilson, Belle Plaine; and brother-and sister-in-law, Tom and Diane Wilson, Marengo. He was preceded in death by his father, Howard.

Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine was in charge of arrangements.
