Funeral services for Clarys Appleget, 103, formerly of Hedrick, were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at the Hedrick-Martinsburg United Methodist Church, Hedrick. She died Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at the Keokuk County Health Care Center, Sigourney.

The Rev. Kim Gates officiated at the service.
Burial was in the Pennington Cemetery near Sigourney.

Memorials may be made to the Hedrick-Martinsburg United Methodist Church.

Fremont Funeral Chapel, Fremont, was in charge of arrangements.

Clarys Appleget was born Sept. 22, 1907, in Keokuk County, the daughter of Frank and Elsa Marie Snakenberg Moore. She graduated from Sigourney High School in 1925 and attended normal training at Iowa State Teachers College. She taught in country schools in the Sigourney area for two years.

She married Dale Appleget May 7, 1927, in Oskaloosa. She was a homemaker, raised her family and helped her husband on the farm. She enjoyed embroidery and focused on her church, participating in 44 mission trips in the Appalachians with Red Bird Missions. She was a very passionate member of Eastern Star and the United Methodist Women. She worked with the Keokuk County Hospice for several years and also enjoyed gardening.

Clarys is survived by two sons, John Appleget and wife Mary, Williamsburg, and Jim Appleget, Mitchellville; one daughter-in-law and her husband, Lois and Paul Appleget, Waukee; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1981; one son, Paul Appleget; one granddaughter, Mary Charline Appleget; one daughter-in-law and her husband, Lois and Jim Appleget; her parents; one sister, LaRue Jacobs, and two brothers, Jim and Richard Moore.
