Celebration of life service for Grace E. Keiser, 97, North English, was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 17, at Powell Funeral Home, North English. She died Sunday, March 13, 2011, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.

The Rev. Michelle Williamson officiated at the service.

Burial was in the North English Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the North English Library and the United Methodist Church.

Grace Elsie Keiser was born Aug. 19, 1913, east of North English, the daughter of Denver and Martha Sears. She graduated from North English High School in 1931. She took normal training classes and taught several years in country schools.

She married James Arthur Keiser June 1, 1935, in Sigourney. They farmed in the Green Valley community east of North English until moving to town.

She was a member of the North English United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Merry Mixers Club and the English Valleys Care Review. She enjoyed farming with her husband, traveling, ice cream and the daily crossword puzzle. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Keiser is survived by one daughter and her husband, Kathy and John O’Rourke, North English; two sons and their wives, Gary and Joan Keiser, Williamsburg, and Stan and Linda Keiser, Iowa City; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Julie and Doug Hansen, Scott and Twyla Keiser, Brian Keiser, Shelly and Joe Westfall, Doug and Brenda Keiser, Jason O’Rourke and Kimberly and Jake Schluesner; eight great-grandchildren, Wayne Gott, Lori Lubin and husband Josh, Cody and Bailey Westfall, Danielle and Samantha Keiser, Lauryn and Jenna Grace Schluesner, and two great-great-grandchildren, Ellie Lubin and Addalyn Gott.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in December 2004; her parents; one grandson, Christopher John O’Rourke; one great-grandson, Timothy Gott; brothers, Marion, Ronald and Frederick Sears, and sisters, Elizabeth Smith and Eva Rock.
