Funeral Mass for Harold J. Weldon, 77, Parnell, was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 12, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, North English. He died Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.

The Rev. Joseph Roost officiated at the service, which was followed by military honors.

Inurnment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Cemetery Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Harold James Weldon was born May 24, 1933, in Parnell, the son of John and Anna Cain Weldon. He graduated from Parnell High School in 1951 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Japan.

He married Marjorie Harney Nov. 16, 1955, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Holbrook. He worked as an electrician in the Parnell area for many years, then owned and operated the Weldon DX, Parnell. He then worked for Shay Electric and Amana Refrigeration before going to General Mills as a maintenance superintendent.

He enjoyed reading and puzzles in his free time. He was well known for his commitment to Parnell and his generosity toward the community. He had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor.

Weldon is survived by two sons, Greg and Paul and wife Jennifer, all Parnell; two daughters and their husbands, Patti and Larry Schropp, Parnell, and Joan and Jeff Sieren, Wellman; five grandchildren, Sara and Jeremy Schropp, Stacie White and Kate and Jacob Weldon; one great-grandson, Logan White; one brother and his wife, Clement and Audrey, North English, and one sister, Rita Murphy, Parnell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, in 2008; his parents; two brothers, John and Dean, and one sister, Margaret Hanson.
