Wiliamsburgh Journal, Williamsburgh (Iowa Co.), Iowa, 26 Aug 1887, p3.

DIED:--At his late residence one mile east of Williamsburgh, August 20, 1887, at 7:30 P.M., C.W. THOMPSON, aged 60 years, 7 months and 11 days.

Mr. Thompson was born in Western Oneida County, New York, January 9, 1927. In early life he attended the common schools, and at the age of 16 he entered Rosan's Academy, Rome, New York, and continued in school there six months. In May 1852, he was married to Miss Caroline C. Buel, who now mourns the loss of a most affectionate husband. In 1854, they came to Iowa, settling in Iowa City, where he was employed as contractor by the Chicago and Rock Island railroad company. In 1857, he purchased a farm in York township and moved into this community soon after. For thirty years he was an active and highly respected citizens of York township faithful to every trust.

In 1871, he was elected a member of the Board of Supervisors, and filled the position to the entire satisfaction of the people of the county.

As a citizen, as a friend, as a neighbor, as a husband and a father he was one of the noblest of men, honorable and upright in all that pertains to true citizenship, constant and true as a friend, generous even to a fault as a neighbor, and faithful and devoted as a husband and father, his death is a deep loss to the community, and an irreparable loss to his wife and daughters.

Thefuneral services were held at the family residence Monday, conducted by Rev. Stewart, and was largely attended, after which the body was interred in our beautiful cemetery.

The heartfelt sympathy of the entire community is extended to the family and friends in this the saddest hour of their life. May that Saviour who wept at the grave of a friend comfort them.
