Mass of Christian Burial for Catharine Lillis, 95, Williamsburg, formerly of Parnell, was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg. She died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at the English Valley Care Center, North English, following an extended illness.

The Rev. Joseph Roost officiated at the service. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Williamsburg.

Memorials may be made to Commitment (El Salvador Orphanage) or St. Joseph’s Cemetery Fund, Parnell.

Anna Catharine Lillis was born March 2, 1915, in rural Williamsburg, the daughter of Laughlin Charles and Ann Veronica Carroll Murrin. She attended the Pilot Township (Sugar Hill) school and graduated from Parnell High School in 1932. She received her associate degree from Ottumwa Heights College and a bachelor of arts degree in education from the University of Iowa, Iowa City.

She married Wilfrid Michael Lillis Oct. 1, 1941, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Parnell.

She taught at Dillon School, two years; Gherry School, two years; Oxford Public School, four years, and Williamsburg Community School, 13 years.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg; the Royal Neighbors of America, the American Legion Auxliary and Delta Kappa Gamma. She enjoyed reading but her main interests were her family and the grandchildren.

Lillis is survived by three sons and their wives, Mike and Barb, Grand Junction, Colo.; Bob and Pat, Williamsburg, and Ed and Jean, Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Ann Lillis, Williamsburg, and Maggie Lillis, Iowa City; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Jana and Brent Teal, Thornton, Colo.; John and Ashley Lillis, Highlands Ranch, Colo.; Brian and Monica Lillis, Austin, Minn.; Jason and Julie Lillis, Durham, N.C.; Rachel Lillis and fiance Brad Lawlor, San Jose, Calif.; Beth and Jeff Genkinger, Cedar Rapids, and Chris Lillis, Austin; six great-grandchildren, Owen, Rob and Ava Lillis, Austin; Calvin and Natalieann Genkinger, Cedar Rapids, and Toran Lillis, Highlands Ranch, and one sister, Peggy Schmitt, Neligh, Neb.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1976; one son, Larry Lillis; one sister, Rita Walter, and two brothers, Leonard and Ed Murrin.
