Had Been a Member of Ohio Church for Nearly Fifty years

The funeral of Mary Matilda Slager, who passed away April 3, 1951, was held in St. Paul’s Methodist Church Thursday afternoon. The officiating clergymen were Rev. John Nye, pastor of St. Paul’s and Rev. Esther Babb, pastor of Pilot Grove and Ohio Methodist churches. Vocal selections were rendered by Mrs. John Haas, Mrs. George Bean, Jr., and Mrs. Burdette Lortz accompanied by May Davis, pianist.

Mary Slager was born in Iowa County, December 24, 1876. She was one of nine children of Anthony and Mary Bren Slager. Her parents were among the early settlers of the county.

She was educated in the rural schools of Iowa County. She was a loyal member of the Ohio Church for about fifty years. She was never married.

Her life was a pattern of service for others in church and community. Her care was always for others.

Her health had been failing for the past twelve years. She became critically ill a week before her death. Her age was 74 years, 3 months and 9 days.

She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. John Klever and Mrs. Fred Klever, both residing in Williamsburg, and by one brother, George Slager of Victor and a number of nieces and nephews.

The deceased was interred in the Ohio Cemetery. Pallbearers were Alfred Klever, Floyd Klever, Truman Slager, Robert Slager, Dale Slager and Carroll Slager.
